The Large Leash Plug is an industry-standard surfboard leash plug used for a clean, durable leash attachment. Its larger 1-5/8" diameter provides a wider footprint, while the deep cup provides plenty of room for the leash string.

Molded in white with a high-grade stainless steel leash bar for strength and corrosion resistance in saltwater environments. Designed for a permanent installation made to last the life of the surfboard.

Installation:

The Large Leash Plug can be installed either before lamination or after the hot coat has cured. For a clean professional installation, first use a standard hole saw to cut a clean 1-5/8" diameter into the board. Remove the material from the center of the cut, then use a 1-5/8" Forstner Bit to clean out the cavity to the required depth.

This two-step method produces a cleaner edge than using the Forstner bit alone and leaves a precise cavity for installing the leash plug.

For additional strength, some glass shops place a small piece of 4 oz fiberglass cloth beneath the leash plug before setting it into the routed cavity.

Set the plug in place with resin and allow it to fully cure. Do not use Q-Cel as a thickening agent. Use either clear resin or lightly pigmented resin to create a white or black finish around the plug.

Before Lamination: Place a piece of tape over the top of the leash plug to prevent resin from entering the cup. Use a razor blade to neatly trim the tape so it covers only the top of the plug. Set the leash plug with the top sitting slightly above the deck of the board, then laminate and hot coat the board as normal. During finish sanding, sand the remaining high spot flush with the deck to expose the leash plug cavity.

After Hot Coat: Set the plug with the top approximately 1/16" above the surrounding surface. Leaving the plug slightly proud helps prevent resin from running into the leash cup during installation. Once the resin has fully cured, grind the plug flush with the surrounding surface before final sanding of the hot coat.
