Bench Plane

The Bench Plane is a traditional hand plane for surfboard shapers who want to shape a blank by hand rather than use an electric planer. Its larger size works well for skinning the blank and making long, controlled cuts to remove foam, performing many of the same rough-shaping tasks normally done with a power planer.

The cutter adjusts for both depth and alignment, allowing the amount of material removed to be controlled for different stages of shaping. For best performance on surfboard foam, the blade should be adjusted from its stock setting before use.

Because of its higher blade angle, this plane is best suited for general foam removal and longer shaping passes rather than fine cuts or trimming the stringer. For stringer work, a lower-angle or dedicated stringer plane is a better choice.

The contoured high-impact polymer front knob and rear handle provide a comfortable, secure grip for controlled passes across the blank.
