Polyester Surfacing Agent is a wax solution dissolved in styrene used to convert polyester laminating resin into sanding (hot coat) resin. It is added during the final coat stage of surfboard construction to eliminate surface tackiness and allow the resin to fully cure to a sandable finish.
When curing, the paraffin wax rises to the surface and “blooms,” forming a protective barrier between the resin and air. This prevents oxygen inhibition and ensures a complete surface cure suitable for sanding and finishing.
This additive is essential for surfboard hot coats, gloss preparation, and any polyester resin application where a fully sandable surface is required.
Features
• Converts laminating resin into sanding (hot coat) resin
• Prevents surface tackiness during curing
• Wax bloom creates oxygen barrier for full surface cure
• Essential for surfboard hot coats and finishing applications
• Improves sanding performance and final surface quality
• Compatible with all polyester laminating resins
Mix Ratio
• 2 oz Surfacing Agent per 1 gallon of polyester laminating resin
Application Notes
Surfacing agent must be thoroughly mixed into polyester resin before adding MEKP catalyst. Use only for final coat applications where sanding is required. Not intended for use in lamination layers.
Shelf Life
Minimum shelf life: 1 year when stored properly
