Styrene Monomer

Styrene Monomer is a reactive solvent commonly used in polyester resin systems as a resin thinner and general-purpose additive. It is primarily used to reduce resin viscosity, improving flow and fiberglass wet-out during lamination.

By lowering viscosity, Styrene Monomer can help achieve faster cloth saturation and smoother application in surfboard construction. It is also used in specialized finishing techniques such as “cheater” gloss coats where increased flow and leveling are desired.

In addition to thinning resin, Styrene Monomer is used in a range of surfboard manufacturing and repair applications, including dissolving UV catalyst powders, reducing visual ghosting under rice-paper laminations, and assisting in certain surface blending and repair processes.
