Modified Wen Surfboard Planer

The Modified Wen Surfboard Planer was developed with one goal in mind: to provide surfboard shapers with an affordable planer designed specifically for shaping surfboards.

The Wen platform was selected for its comfortable handle angle, which already lends itself well to surfboard shaping without requiring extensive modification. Building on that foundation, several key upgrades have been made to improve performance, control, and usability in the shaping bay.

The most significant modification is the custom depth control system, which allows the planer to transition from closed to its full 1/8" cutting depth in just a quarter turn of the adjustment knob. This provides fast, precise, on-the-fly depth adjustments while moving through different stages of the shaping process.

Additional modifications include a 20-foot power cord for increased mobility around the shaping bay, a vacuum exhaust attachment for dust collection, a capped opening opposite the vacuum port, and rounded front shoe edges for smoother transitions across the blank.

Whether roughing out a blank or fine-tuning contours, the Modified Wen Surfboard Planer provides an affordable, purpose-built alternative to traditional surfboard planers.
